Pineapple upside-down cake

pinnapple upside down cake1日本人にはなじみのないケーキですが、イギリスやアメリカなどではとってもレトロなケーキ。

This retro cake is not well know in Japan, but it brings childhood memories to many of people in England and America etc.
For me, this cake reminds of my host family in England since the host mother taught me this cake.


Normally this cake is made with pineapples from a tin, but one day I bought a pineapple at the supermarket as it was surprisingly cheap.
However I found out that my husband doesn’t like fresh pineapples….
So I decided to make a compote n bake this cake.


I like using golden syrup for this cake instead of the mixture of butter n sugar.
Actually I have never try the other version.

pinnapple upside down cakeパイナップルを型に並べ、そこにたっぷりとゴールデンシロップをかけます。

Arrange pineapples on the top of the tin and pour lots of golden syrup over.
If you place cherries in the center of the pineapple rings, it looks so lovely.
But I don’t really like cherries so I don’t put them..
And pour the sponge slowly, then put in the oven.

pineapple upside-down cake焼き上がったら少し冷まして、お皿にひっくり返せば出来上がり♪

Leave a little while to cool, and turn out on to the plate upside-down.
It is so juicy!
You may have it as cold or warm. Personally I prefer warm with ice cream or cream :)
